In 1984, Curtis Smith reached one of the highest points in his racing career by winning Stock Eliminator at the NHRA Summernationals at the legendary Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
Long regarded as one of NHRA’s true “Majors”—and widely considered the second biggest race in the country—the Summernationals attracted the best Stock racers from across the nation. Against that elite field, Curtis delivered a flawless performance, round after round, rising to the occasion on one of drag racing’s most demanding stages.
When Curtis took the final win light, it wasn’t just another victory—it was a defining moment. The win confirmed his place among the sport’s top competitors and further cemented the Smith family name in NHRA history. Triumphing at Englishtown placed Curtis in rare company and solidified the Summernationals victory as one of the most significant accomplishments of his career.
