Third Generation Driver Curt Smith Jr. showed up at Rockingham Dragway off a double up win performance at Darlington Dragway the weekend before that put him on Drag Champ Magazine's Top 10 driving performances in the nation for that week. After a solid qualifying performance, Curt Jr. found himself on the right side of a opponents red light first round, and a close race win second round. Curt Jr. turned on the red bulb third round, leaving a bit too early and costing himself a chance at the NHRA Wally for Saturday. Sunday's National Open race started off the same way as Saturday's race with an opponent's red light first round. Second Round brought a .001 total package for his opponent and left Curt Jr. without any room to win.
