Drag Racing Hall of Fame member Curtis Smith raced in his first NMCA event this past weekend at Rockingham Dragway. Curtis has enjoyed vast success during his career at Rockingham Dragway, posting the third most all time national wins at the track including winning the IHRA U.S. Open Nationals back to back in 1986 and 1987. Curtis, driving son Curt Jr.'s Chevrolet Camaro in Stock Eliminator had fuel pressure issues all weekend, qualified with a 11.463 pass but was unable to make the first round of eliminations after thrashing on the car late into the evening after it would not idle. Curtis was able to later diagnose the problem as a bad fuel regulator.
