About Curtis Smith Racing

Curtis Smith Racing, founded in 1957, is proud to be one of the oldest active teams in the NHRA. The family patriarch Earl Smith raced in his first NHRA National Event at Daytona Beach, Florida with hometown best friend Bobby Warren in February of 1957. 'Cigar Earl' went on to have a very successful career setting many NHRA and IHRA world records and winning multiple IHRA National Events. Second generation driver Curtis Smith started warming his father Earl's cars up for him at a young age and scored Runner Up honors at his first IHRA national event race at Rockingham Dragway. Curtis went on to win 17 IHRA and NHRA combined national events in Stock Eliminator, making him the All Time Winningest IHRA Stock Eliminator driver. Curtis was the first IHRA Sportsman Driver to win 3 national events in a row and is the 1996 IHRA Stock Eliminator World Champion. Curtis has been inducted into the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame, the East Coast Drag Racing Hall of Fame, and the Sampson County Sports Hall of Fame. Third Generation driver Curt Smith Jr. started racing in 2010 and has scored multiple top 10 season points finishes in the CCRA.
